Confirmation Ministry at St. Luke’s is designed to help youth grow in their faith and discipleship not only by conveying information but also by teaching a way of life. It culminates in a Rite of Confirmation in which the confirmands confess their faith and make a commitment to faithfully live among God’s faithful people.
Catechism Classes: Catechism classes are offered to those in Grades 3 – 8 as part of our midweek programming ministry on Wednesday evenings. These classes begin with an "Introduction to My Bible" (Grade 3) and then cover the chief parts of Luther's Small Catechism -- Baptism (Grade 4), Holy Communion (Grade 5), The Ten Commandments (Grade 6), The Lord's Prayer and the Apostles' Creed (Grades 7 & 8). Each class lasts for ten weeks.
Mentoring: After completing the Catechism classes, each youth is matched with an adult mentor who spends about a year sharing and discussing key aspects of the Christian life.
Rite of Confirmation: Confirmands present themselves for the Rite of Confirmation individually, not as a class, when they have completed the Catechism classes and the mentoring program. The Rite of Confirmation is offered twice a year – on the Day of Pentecost (late May or early June) and on Reformation Sunday (the last Sunday in October).
