What is worship like at St. Luke’s?
St. Luke’s considers regular, weekly worship to be important for a healthy and vital relationship with God and with God’s people. Worship is first and foremost an opportunity for us to offer thanks and praise to God. It is also an opportunity to hear God’s Word and share in the Lord’s Supper. All regular, weekly worship services include Holy Communion. Worship is also an opportunity to be together with the family of faith – to encourage and support each other in a life of faith and faithfulness.
St. Luke’s offers three worship styles, ranging from traditional to contemporary:
Saturday Night (5:00 p.m.) is a more traditional service, alternating between a liturgy from The Lutheran Book of Worship and a liturgy from Evangelical Book of Worship.
Early Service (Sundays at 8:30 a.m.) is a blended service using LBW, EBW¸ and Now the Feast and Celebration.
Late Service (Sundays at 11:00 a.m., except from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day Weekend when it is at 10:00 a.m.)
Healing Service: In those months with five Sundays, the last weekend is a healing service, during which those in need of healing for any reason (physical, spiritual, emotional, relational) are invited forward for an anointing with oil and a blessing.
Mid-Week Services: During the seasons of Advent and Lent, Holden Evening Prayer is offered on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m.
When do children take their First Communion?
In his Small Catechism, Martin Luther says that a person is truly worthy and well prepared to receive this sacrament who has faith in these words: “Given and shed for you for the forgiveness of sins.” Children who are four years old or older are invited to a class on Holy Communion which will prepare them to receive their First Communion. This class is offered three times a year, usually on a Sunday evening.
How do I contact a pastor in an emergency?
The pastors and others in the congregation want to know whenever there is a need for pastoral care. Pastor Frank can be reached at home (828-5402), on his cell phone (481-2433), or at

How do I get started?
You get started by worshipping with us. Worship is at the heart and center of what it means to be a part of a faith community. In addition to worship, it would be good to participate in a small group or a Christian Education class, in a service event (click here to see a sampling of opportunities) or in a fellowship event. St. Luke’s is a welcoming place. We want you to feel welcome to participate in anything that seems interesting to you. Membership is not required to participate in any of our programs or activities.
How do I become a member of St. Luke’s?
We ask all those who are considering membership at St. Luke’s to attend the Inquirer’s Class. This new member class provides a common foundation in the teachings of the Christian Church from a Lutheran perspective. The class consists of ten sessions, which are recorded for those who might have to miss a class occasionally. At the conclusion of the Inquirer’s Class, those desiring to join St. Luke’s are received by the Rite of Affirmation of Baptism at a regular worship service.
I missed last Sunday. How can I keep up to date?
Both The Happenings (our weekly informational bulletin) and The Epistle (our monthly newsletter) are available on this web site. Click here. The pastor’s weekly sermon is also available on this web site. It can be read online, downloaded, or printed (click here).
How can I have my child baptized at St. Luke’s?
Baptism is offered once a month at a regular worship service – usually on the third weekend of the month. Prior to a baptism, parents and sponsors are asked to meet with a pastor to talk about what baptism is, the responsibilities of parents and sponsors, and where to stand and what to do. You can initiate this process by contacting the church office or by submitting a Baptism Application Form (click here). Parents do not need to be members of St. Luke’s in order to have a child baptized here. However, since baptism will make your child a member of St. Luke’s and since parental responsibilities include bringing your child to worship, we expect that parents intend to join St. Luke’s also.
What happens when there is a storm?
Educational activates at St. Luke’s are canceled when Northview Public Schools cancel their activities due to weather. Our cancelations are listed on Wood TV-8, WZZM-13 and WCSG-91.3 FM. If the weather turns bad on a weekend or after school hours, check with the person(s) in charge of the activity or the local listing. In some cases when school is cancelled the weather clears and a decision may be made to still hold that activity. Wednesday night programs and Confirmation will always be cancelled if Northview Schools cancel their activities.
What do I need to do if I want to get married at St. Luke’s?
We will do weddings at St. Luke's for members and for non-members, but all wedding rites are set within a clear context of worship. That means that everything we do at a wedding service needs to be appropriate for worship and all music must be Christian music. Couples who plan to be married at St. Luke’s are expected to participate in pre-marriage counseling, which includes both private counseling and a pre-marriage retreat. The Pre-Pair Retreat is offered twice a year, once in the Fall and once in the Winter/Spring. The initial step would be to meet with a pastor to discuss the process, to get a packet of information, and an application form. Couples would also work with one of the Wedding Coordinators to plan the service and ceremony.
